Old Balls Discovered
Greenkeeper Pete was digging out the area between the third green and fourth tee last week, and unearthed lots of old and not so old golf balls. The most interesting find apart from a 1.62 Dunlop 65 and an old Slazenger B51 marked Australia, was a Tommy Armour 75 which was made up until the 1950's by the Worthington Golf Co from the US.It is a 1.68 size Mike Jarrett has found a couple of interesting articles about the Company, as well as an advert attached to an obituary for a Mr Maurice McCarthy. He was a teaching pro and suffered a coronary .He was described as "A fine old gentleman" even though he was only 63 when he died!! Also interesting is the entry for the Penfold Matchplay for a purse of £5000, a not insignificant amount in 1938. If you'd like to read the articles please ask in the Pro Shop for a copy.

Social Membership
Just to clarify that it's a condition of our Club Premises Certificate that everyone should be a member (or signed in by a member) in order to enjoy the Clubhouse facilities. If you are a member signing a guest in you actually need to be present to do this. Green fee paying visitors and visiting teams are treated as temporary members and are not required to sign in. Functions and parties can only be booked by members. The only slight exception to this rule is where someone is considering joining as a Social Member and would like to, say, book a table for lunch then a senior member of staff can sign them in as a guest on a trial basis so they can experience what is on offer.

The Frank Hiles Trophy was played at the club on Sunday 13th August. It was a 36 hole open competition in which 76 players competed. Chris McGill (playing off of +2) from Dawlish Warren Golf Club was the winner scoring 70+68=138. This continues Chris' impressive season, having played in two Devon Order of Merits and finished in 1st place in one, and tied 1st place in the Gold medal at Tiverton. Chris has been having lessons with Jon Axford for some time, and Jon has helped to reduce his handicap from scratch to +2. Follow link for the results. More information

SDL win vs Stover
Match result: Stover 3 Teignmouth 4. The opening SDL match of the season for Teignmouth and Stover was played on Saturday 22nd April at Stover Golf Club. It was very closely fought with Teignmouth coming out on top with 4 matches being won 2 & 1, one match 1 up, and two matches halved. It really could of gone either way. All the matches were played in a great spirit and credit to all the players for making such a great effort.

New Discounted rates for Members aged 24-40
In common with many other golf clubs, the average age of TGCs membership has continued to increase gradually over recent years. In recognition of the fact that less than 10% of TGCs playing members are in the age bracket 18-35, and to further promote membership to younger players, the Board has agreed that discounts should be offered to those 24-40 years old in £25 increments from around £350 - £750. This replaces the previous discount structure for those aged 24-29 and 30-35. Discounted rates for Intermediates and Students aged 18-23 will continue as before. Junior membership rates for 8-17 year olds will also continue to range from nil to £100, according to age and experience. Full details of terms, conditions and prices are available on request
